Claims example · Commercial Auto
One distracted moment. Several injured drivers.
An illustrative scenario showing why driver controls and liability limits matter.
The scenario
A technician in a loaded service truck looks down at a dispatch notification as traffic stops ahead. The truck strikes one vehicle and pushes it into two others. Several occupants report injuries, one requiring surgery.
Coverage questions
Commercial Auto liability may respond to covered bodily injury and property damage, subject to the policy. Physical damage to the company truck, towing, rental needs and attached equipment raise separate questions. If damages exceed the auto limit, a properly scheduled umbrella or excess policy may become important.
The operational lesson
Written distracted-driving rules, telematics, driver selection, training and prompt accident reporting can reduce frequency and improve the information available after a loss. Review limits before a serious collision tests them.
