Architects & Engineers
A design decision can affect an entire project.
Design professionals need coverage and underwriting built around disciplines, contracts, projects and professional standard of care.
Design classes
Specialized programs may address architects, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineers, land surveyors, landscape architects, interior designers, construction managers, environmental consultants and other design disciplines. Design-build work, geotechnical services, forensic work and high-hazard projects may require additional underwriting.
Professional allegations
A client may allege that drawings, calculations, specifications, surveys, schedules, cost estimates, site observations or contract-administration services fell below the applicable professional standard of care. A claim can involve redesign expense, project delay, loss of use or damage caused by an alleged design error.
Contracts can increase the exposure
Review indemnity provisions, warranties, guarantees, schedule commitments, limitation-of-liability clauses, ownership of instruments, dispute resolution and insurance requirements. Agreeing to a standard higher than ordinary professional negligence can create an uninsured contractual obligation.
Prepare the submission
Provide revenue by discipline, project type and state; largest projects; subconsultants; standard contracts; quality-control process; prior acts date; claims and circumstances; and resumes of principals. Project-specific, excess, pollution, cyber and contractor coverage may also be relevant.
